Paycheck decoder

See where your paycheck goes and what actually lands in your account.

Your paycheck

Enter your gross pay for one check — the amount before anything is taken out.

Optional — lets Social Security stop once you pass the annual wage cap. 0 is fine.
Federal and state are the percentages you enter — an estimate, not a bracket calculation. Your real withholding depends on your W-4 and filing status. Find your true rates on a recent pay stub.
How this is calculated

Social Security is 6.2% of your wages up to an annual cap; Medicare is 1.45% with no cap. Together these are called FICA and everyone pays them. If you enter wages already earned this year, Social Security correctly stops once you pass the cap.

Federal and stateuse the flat percentages you type — we deliberately don’t model tax brackets, allowances, or deductions, which vary by person. Take-home is your gross minus everything withheld.

FICA rates verified January 2025.

Your take-home pay

$1,567.00

That's 78% of your $2,000.00 gross paycheck.
